RATS attack, they are everywhere, how did they get into the annex and how on earth do we get them out?

We have had the annex now around 7 years and without too many surprises

Well the other day we got one!

I went in to see how mum was a have a look round and on the window sill were large droppings – argh rat pooh……..

looking around under the bed, sofa, kitchen units pooh everywhere it was grim – how did it get there?

I found an old hover and started the clean up which was not nice

I then went on amazon and bought a cage trap type thing which I baited and set in the corner and waited

After a few day the pooh got worse and started to look to see where he was coming in but the building was new, looking around outside there were no holes, no gaps in the wall it was a mystery..

Now one of the things I feel is a very good idea in annex building, is to make the doors, the entry and exit points of the building to have no step or very small ones so people particularly old ones can get in and out easily

LEVEL ACCESS its called – the problem with this is it makes it easy for other things to get in such as RODENTS…..

Seeing nothing happen with the trap but rat activity still lots decided to GOOGLE pest control in the town we live to get someone local and a few days later Jason arrived in his black van with a tub of poison

Now I did not want to blitz the area as only wanted to get rid of the rat not the field mice we see running around outside so told him this.

He looked around the house in detail – get rid of all foods laying around he said, out went the-

BIRD FOOD

DOG FOOD

SCRAPS OF FOOD

OLD MICROMAVE MEAL TRAYS MUM PUTS DOWN FOR THE DOG TO EAT

everything possible so the rat if he comes will eat the poison

As we have made the door in and out very low it looks like the rat was coming in at night when mum left the door open, when she went to bed and closed door it was trapped inside.

One night it actually got on her window sill and tried to escape by nibbling the window frame to get out – we had to get rid of him, weils disease Jason said is a really nasty disease that can be in the rat wee!!! Oh my god it gets worse

Jason said wait a week and see what happens, when he returned the pooh was still appearing but no poison gone – tray phobia he said some rats have an inbuilt fear of the trays so out tipped the poison on the floor behind the sofa, behind kitchen units loads of places but hidden from mums dog – we then waited, and waited in fact we…..

WENT ON HOLIDAY FOR A WEEK AND LEFT MUM HOME ALONE and guess what, we got a phone message there is a large dead rat in the centre of the lounge….argh and we are in Cornwall

Luckily a friend could call and remove the rat to the bin. when we got home Jason returned and looked to see the state of the poison and the little neat piles were disturbed and looks like it got him…

I have since cleaned up all the mess and we are waiting a final visit by the rat man each day I look and its all clean so heres hoping

Once we have not seen him return all the carpets will need to be professionally cleaned to get out the rat waste and hope they don’t come back

this was a really nasty experience so make sure if you have an annex with low doors in or out that doors are kept shut, and food is not left lieing around – as Jason said there are millions of rats everywhere and you do not want to share your annex with them!!!!!!!

thanks

David
