Rugs…decorative addition to the house or death trap for old people?

Rugs…decorative addition to the house or death trap for old people?

We are having a running battle – a bit one sided at the moment about rugs in nannys annexe, they are silent and come in many colours but just waiting there like crocodiles, still on the floor, ready and deadly waiting to trip over the unsuspecting person!!

Might sound pathetic and odd but since mums recent falls these have been slowly eliminated from her house – well all except the one in her bedroom but got a buzz from her 530am and went in to find her again on the floor

she was about 6ft from the bed with yes you guessed it a hairy rugs in between the idle Zimmer frame and mother on the floor

she kept making excuses as to why she fell, it was dark, it was the dog, I just lost my footing…..no it was the rug another one confined to landfill so of it went

So now she moans and asks for them back, I don’t know why there is a nice carpet all on the floor, must be a reason but I don’t know what it is, I feel bad keeping on saying but it is not going to work, they are jut to dangerous, but there is an almost inevitability for her falling, a prospect which we don’t relish and if it does happens it will be distressing all round, who knows maybe it wont and the chance of it happening will be much less since the rugs have gone!!

So as she is 901/2 she isn’t able to put them back down and if it is upsetting then it has to be that way, anything to stop falls has got to be good but who knows….

well I am off up the shops again for the daily trip to get mother ready meals and sandwiches but lets keep going and if any of you are out there thinking will get our relative a rug for their new [or old place] remember it might not be the safest thing to buy them, why not get a nice house plant – is there any danger there????

Oh whilst writing…..anyone else got any tips on things that should be removed from old peoples places, which might look tame enough but can be a risk as they travel around their houses

please let me know

thanks

David
