Help with unforeseen events
Lots of unexpected changes and events will come up during the time you take to change your property. Some of these you will be able to plan for, others not.
As a family living together one of the great benefits is that you can help each other out when these things happen.
To give you some examples we have experienced the following:
Looking after mums dog, she has baby sat for us, running trips to the hospital and doctors. There have also been simpler things like borrowing milk or fruit or a bottle of wine when we’ve run out.
All I am highlighting is benefits of multi generational living, and one big help came out of the blue!
Six months after we had completed and the dust was settling at home my wife had a silly accident and broke her leg. She struggled around the house, couldn’t go out and washing was a problem. But even worse it was soon clear that she could not take the kids to school on her own.
Now before when we lived on our own we would have been stuck. Now with my 84 year old mother living next door we had a volunteer taxi!
So in went 2 children and my wife and every day for 8 weeks my mum ferried the kids backwards and forwards to school. Mum enjoyed it, the kids enjoyed it, and it so helped, as without her we would have been stuck!
Now in all my thoughts and discussions it never occurred to me once that this sort of thing would happen.
You just don’t know where things may lead.
So apart from the obvious help to us, my mum had lots of good contact with her grand children. The driving and school drop of was a good social outing for her and when it ended she said she missed it.
So looking back this event gave us good laugh and a feeling of togetherness.
So when you finish your project there could be all sorts of good things happen, just try it and see.
