Need a granny annex fast, if you have a double garage you could have one in months?

If you have a house with a garage especially a double one you could create a good functioning annex in a few months

Looking from the outside often this type of conversion leaves the house unchanged, which can be good.

The house could be nothing out of the ordinary, a 3 bedroom semi in an everyday, suburban street.

The front door is normal, the gardens unchanged, the path up to the house and the garage all look ok.

But look a little closer and you will see the garage door has been removed and replaced by a false one with windows cleverly fitted in to it.

Step inside and there are a few big changes to make it a good new living space, the old concrete floor is gone, covered with insulation and a chipboard floor put on top.

The walls were covered with plasterboard after fitting electric cables for power behind them and Newley plastered.

The garage was divided into a bedroom, shower room and kitchenette and the front drive dug up to connect the pipes from the new new shower and toilet

The old door from the garage into the house stayed in place and gave access into the house to share facilities, but also giving privacy when needed.

The only thing I guess you notice in this design is there were no side windows so it lacked a bit of natural light, but a clever use of specially designed shower and toilet products helps provide a feeling of space, so when you are in there you do not feel cramped, but your layout might be different and allow for windows either on the side or roof lights?

Now the final completed rooms are not massive, but they do provide all that is required for living and feeling comfortable in your home – and set against living on your own in sheltered accommodation or a nursing home I would take this all the time!

All in all a very clever set up and one that did not require big building work, walls or foundations, high costs or complicated architects drawings.

Keeping things simple created a great new living space for a single relative and kept them in the heart of the families existing house.

This was an annex I helped build for someone and I can help you do the same, if your are interested but do not know where to go first please drop me an email and I will see if I can help you

thanks
