Be prepared for anything when you undertake a granny annex?

This might sound obvious but make sure you are prepared for all sorts once you start down the route of building or creating a granny annex

When we first started our annex build we lived in a different house to my mum, we were hoping to rent a place for 6 months while the new building was finished and then to move in but due to various reasons this did not happen!

We were trying to sell our house to fund the completion of the build but the sale fell through twice, which was a nightmare.

This event cost us time and money and added a whole lot of stress onto our lives – but be warned these things come out of the blue so try to think about what may happen when you start?

When our house eventually sold the new annex building was only about 2 months away from being finished so we decided to all move in together.

This was done mainly for money reasons which when you had to rent for 6 months, and we only wanted two, felt all a big waste of money.

Lets just say we were not very prepared for the unexpected, but we should have been moving in with my mum who had lived alone for 6 years with her dog.

Suddenly she had 2 young children and us descend on her!!

Her bungalow suddenly became a very busy house, with lots of touchy moments, a few tears, and some cross words but you just have to remind yourself that it won’t be for too long.

One thing it does do is give you is a big push to get the new building completed.

We worked in the evenings and weekends to make sure things got finished.

Now much of what happened is forgotten, strange as at the time it was a big headache with lots going wrong but once the dust has settled, we started to enjoy what we had created and now just get on with our lives.

Thanks
