Early days planning
In the early days when you are thinking about extending or altering your home in some way, it is very advisable if not essential to have a drawing, sketch or layout of your proposed idea or what you are considering building. In the first instance it does not have to be a professional one.
Now much depends on your skills on the drawing board but a really good way to start if you are looking at buying a property is that most estate agents websites have a floor plan of the houses they are selling.
If it is your own house perhaps you have kept the original property sale details showing this with dimensions of each room, or kept a copy of the land register document with your house sale information.
Looking at property sites or listed houses for sale can also show floor plans for houses similar to yours.
Printing of these plans and them using them as a templates can get you started.
If possible buy your self some graph paper from a stationers and a scale rule and experiment drawing a basic plan, say using a scale of 1:20 or 1:50 or 1:100. It might sound tricky but with a few goes you should start to get the hang of layouts even very basic ones.
If it is your own house get ideas as above but also get out a tape and a friend and take some real measurements outside. Plot them on the drawing, but you can also use stakes in the ground, tape laid out on the floor to illustrate where rooms can go, doors, window positions to get a feel for the possible layout options.
If you need help with this we are pleased to give advice or come to your house to run through the above, we can arrange simple plans or very detailed plans for you to get you started and on the way to creating you own extended living spaces
