Bring back the bungalow now?
The government has suggested that the bungalow needs to “come back” to help our ageing population, a nine month inquiry found that government policies were “overlooking” the housing needs of older people in rural areas.
The inquiry recommends that all property built should have the elderly in mind.
They found that many family homes are becoming increasingly unsuitable for their needs.
Small estates should be built of say 6 bungalows together to help people stay in their homes as they age
All new homes they say should be built to The Lifetimes Homes standards which asks for certain things to be built in them, exactly the areas which I have said should go into a granny annex….
Doorways wide enough to get mobility aids through, level access into them, accessible showers and toilets…nothing particularly complex just requiring a bit of thought.
If the government encouraged or even promoted people to build granny annexes we would be building bungalows for thousands of elderly people and it would cost them nothing.
Soon hopefully they will realise what a good idea they are and hopefully help people to build them.
If you need help or advise please drop me a line and I can help you with your project
thanks
David
