Keep a record of what you do, a diary or similar.
Recording information is important when working on your house for lots of reasons and it is an idea to get into the habit of it before, during and after you have finished the build.
The way I found to do this was to keep a diary from the moment I got the first idea about the project, it started as a bit of an accident really just as a way to help me decide on what to do by listing thoughts and ideas.
Keeping it from early on it is now packed full of information from technical details, reasons for choosing certain things, funny or difficult things that happened…..all sorts.
Looking back mine also recorded my thoughts and memories and the reasons why we did things.
It has also been super helpful with this site as a memory jogger.
Not only is it interesting to look back, but helpful as it show lots of the things we did and reasons why, its got pictures in, maps, plans, sketches that the kids did, so it can also be a reference point in the future.
I noted comments from mum, my wife, the builder, our children and looking back cannot believe our reactions to things.
Looking back I should have put lots more information in, what products we used, more detail on costs, how long things took to do but too late for that now.
Thanks
David
