Our granny annex top tips – No10 Pay people on time who have done a good job
Pay people on time who have done a good job – whatever you are doing we found that once something was done, a job finished, part delivered and we were happy then we paid the guys or the company doing the work.
It just felt right, it was a habit my dad had always done and guess it kind of stuck with me to treat people fairly.
It certainly had knock on effects, I am convinced the work force were happier, lots were one man bands who basically needed the money and it was hardly fair to hold out for weeks, some even waited months with other customers to be paid.
It was definitely easier to get favours from workers, to do this little bit or that and it made negotiating extras and what we paid for them easier and I think a little cheaper.
There was also one night or late afternoon when we went through an electric cable. Now I cannot be sure if he would have done this if we had owed him money but the guy stayed late, in the dark, in a wet trench and got the power back on for us, what a star.
We treated them fairly and I am sure they did the same to us.
The other thing I am convinced is that if you want them to come back to do another job however big or small, and we have done that loads of times since, the more they are interested in us than in some one who takes ages paying them.
Try it and see what happens, I would love to have your feedback?
