Our granny annex top tips – No5 Use suitably qualified people

Use suitably qualified people; sounds obvious when I write it but how many people check the qualifications of those that they use.

What would you do if you were looking for a plumber/heating engineer would you ask them for or check that they were gas safe/corgi registered and confirm their number was current.

How about using an electrician would you ask them for their certificate card from NICEIC? maybe not? What about a painter, ground worker or tree surgeon?

It gets more tricky with a builder as although there are lots of qualifications out there some are good and some are not so good and builders can even buy qualifications. These look good on paper or on their website [and don’t even cost a lot of money] but does it prove much and does it show that they are sound and really up to the job.

The other recent thing is to use one of those web sites that recommend contractors but here not everything is straight forward, just lately I have spoken with 3 different people who used internet recommended contractors in and had really bad experiences; one getting a very expensive invoice for a small jobs, one getting a very  poorly finished job and one where the work was not properly finished

All of these were recommended by someone but with such little information who knows, so what do you do.

One of the aims of my site is to ensure that what work I am involved in with you is carried out by qualified people [not fake ones] but people who are safe to use, who will do what they say and all together we will make sure your project is compled to a very high standard.

I want us to share experiences so that we can all learn who is the best at creating the Multi Generational Living Spaces, spread the word and grow into a respected organisation that all can use safely.
