A granny annex top tip – be prepared for the unexpected

When we first started our annex build we lived in a different house to my mum, we were hoping to rent a place for 6 months while the new building was finished and then to move in but due to various reasons this did not happen!

We were trying to sell our house to fund the completion of the build but the sale fell through twice, which was a bit of a nightmare.

When it eventually sold the new annex building was only about 2 months away from being finished so we decided to all move in together.[for money reasons mainly] which when you had to rent for 6 months was a big waste of money.

Well my second tip is be very prepared for the unexpected, moving in with my mum who had lived alone for 6 years with her dog.

Suddenly she had 2 young children and us descend on her, lets just say it was a very busy house, with lots of touchy moments, a few tears, and some cross words but you just have to remind yourself that its not for long.

One thing it does do is give you a big push to get the new building completed, working in the evenings and weekends and now much of what happened is forgotten  as once the dust has settled you just all move on with your life.
