How much does a place in a care home cost?
Just read about the soaring cost of care home fees, a study by Prestige Nursing has highlighted the UK’s “desperate and worsening” care crisis.
They comment that elderly people who go into a care home face average fees of £30,000 a year.
Ron Altmann a former pensions minister said that the Government has failed to address the long standing problem of care costs leaving families to face the strain of paying for loved one’s fees.
I am not surprised even in the last couple of months of researching I have found out the following few things for my site:
A lady who pays £1500 a week for a very top care home, per week!
Another couple I spoke to had to sell their ‘inheritance’ a £250,000 bungalow to cover the cost of care home fees for their mother.
Another lady I have spoken to needed a break from looking after her mother and spent a £1000 a week putting her into a very high end care home in the second week she feel out of bed? and within 6 weeks died, maybe an accident, I am not sure but doesn’t sound very caring for such a lot of money?
Just food for thought really, but one of the main reasons to think about the future and ask yourself what you are going to do when you get old or what are you going to do about housing your loved ones?
Thanks
David
